Foodie Heaven, and Rain, in Vancouver & British Columbia (Canada)
Visited - November 2016
Location - Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada.
What can we say about Vancouver other than, the food is awesome! Oh and it rains ... a lot! But don't let that hold you back, we didn't, British Columbia is stunning, largely in part, because of all that rain.
Highlights to this beautiful city and its surrounds included ...
A day wandering around quaint Granville Island with its wide array of arts and crafts, eclectic shopping, eateries, bars (including of course the Granville Island Brewing Co and the Liberty Distillery) as well as the Public Market. The only way to get there "in style" is with False Creek Ferries (very cute).
Another day exploring Stanley Park including magic views of The Lions Gate Bridge (The shot of the Bridge below is from the Sea Wall). It is approximately a 9km walk all the way around the Park, which includes great views of English Bay. But don't wear yourself out, its great to meander along the paths within the greenery, monuments and sculptures of the Park itself.
Nightlife in historic Gastown, which included a very liquid affair at Pourhouse ... I've never seen so much love and attention put into mixing an Old Fashioned! Don't get me wrong, they should never be rushed, but this was something else, a true love affair with every single drink! A World War II era Rye (taken straight of course) was the cherry on the top of a fine evening! Wildebeest was another food highlight, with the Bone Marrow (finished clean via a shot of Sherry, poured down the length of the bone to your waiting lips) of particular note.
Then there was Whistler! Accessed via the Sea to Sky Highway. We were a little early to hit the slopes, but this gave us all the more opportunity to truly take in the beauty of this stunning, mountainous realm.
To be continued ...
