The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Singapore

We are in Singapore again, for the second time in as many months, but this time for a work conference rather than purely YOLO Travel pleasure.  And when needing to stay near the conference centres of the Marina Bay district, there are a multitude of lovely business class hotels from which to choose.  But when looking for an oasis of serenity in this lively city, none come close to matching the divine Fullerton Bay Hotel.

Riverside Rainforest, Kinabatangan River Wildlife Sanctuary, Borneo, Malaysia (including Gomantong Caves)

After an introduction to Borneo’s wildlife in the sanctuaries of Sepilok, we are now journeying up the Kinabatangan River, deep into the heart of Malaysian Borneo.  The Kinabatangan is the longest river in Sabah, and its chocolate-brown waters meander through a sublime landscape of riverine forests, mangrove swamps, oxbow lakes and limestone caves.  The jungle-filled shoreline is now designated the Kinabatangan River Wildlife Sanctuary and is home to vast populations of Bornean wildlife in their natural environment.

Guaranteed Wildlife in Sepilok, Borneo, Malaysia

We are bound for the jungles of Borneo, keen to see orangutans and other wildlife in the rich rainforests of the Kinabatangan River and the Danum Valley.  But en route, we are sojourning in Sepilok, to visit its well-regarded sanctuaries and reserves.

Here’s what you need to know for planning your visit to Sepilok…

Ulu Temburong National Park, Brunei

Anything more than a fleeting transit in Brunei is likely to include a visit to Ulu Temburong National Park, a pristine virgin rainforest. As one of the main tourist activities in this small nation, it is a source of pride for the local people, and a visit to Ulu Temburong is as much about the journey as it is the destination. Here’s how to plan and what to expect.

Visiting Brunei - Should you Go and What to Do

It is very likely that the small nation of Brunei has never found itself high on your travel to-do list. Or if it has, it is equally likely that recent news regarding changes to the legal system convinced you to go elsewhere. But we are very pleased to report that, as is almost always the case, if you look past the media headlines and open your mind and heart to something different, you will discover a warm and friendly country that offers so much more than you might have expected.

Singapore's Hippest Hotel - The Warehouse Hotel (& Po Restaurant)

“Achingly hip” – it is the only way to describe the lobby of The Warehouse Hotel.  We arrive at dusk, and the low lighting suffuses the gorgeous bar with warmth, while the dangling edison globes reveal an eclectically decorated loft.  A cathedral ceiling arches overhead, and exposed brickwork and metalwork give an industrial-chic vibe.  There is fashionable low slung furniture, filled with fashionable people, and cocktail glasses clink and sparkle in the subdued glow. Welcome to The Warehouse Hotel…

Returning to India

Our latest travel itinerary is pretty well a pure wildlife adventure – we are heading back to India, this time to focus almost exclusively on seeing and photographing tigers! (We hope!).

Borobudur, Java, Indonesia

Borobudur, on the Indonesian island of Java, has been high on our to do list of ancient site visits for a number of years, particularly after visiting Angkor Wat in Cambodia.  While it is not as extensive as the sprawling complex of Angkor Wat, the opportunity to climb on to the world's largest Buddhist Temple, in order to experience a spectacular sunrise, was a highly anticipated adventure.
