While it eventuated that our accommodation in Madagascar was far more luxurious than we ever envisioned (see our reviews for Le Soleil des Tsingy, and Tsarabanjina), we learned the most luxurious way to spend your money here is probably not on your accommodation, but instead on your means of travel – and by this we mean your own charter flights.
We have ventured to Madagascar for its iconic wildlife, and our first destination is Andasibe Mantadia National Park. Just four hours drive from the capital, it is a perfect introduction to the lemurs, chameleons, lizards, snakes, frogs and all sorts of weird and wonderful beetles that populate the forests of this colourful country.
As a frequent traveller, it can sometimes be a little hard to really be impressed by a new town. While far from being jaded or world-weary, it’s just not that often that a city distinguishes itself from the rest. Not so with Antananarivo, or Tana, the capital city of Madagascar.
Having had Madagascar on our travel list for longer than we can remember, we were finally able to lock in a trip to this beautiful and surprising island! We confess to some trepidation, the recent popular news out of the country was slightly less than inviting and prompted many doubtful questions and comments from friends and family when announcing our next destination. But if you can look past the headlines (which often serve an ulterior purpose, more on that later) you will discover, as we have, another of the worlds great treasures.
