Wilderness Safaris Vumbura Plains (North, South and Little Vumbura), Okavango Delta, Botswana
Experiencing real wildlife immersion, in luxury and style, at Wilderness Safaris’ newly refurbished Vimbura Plains is a must for discerning animal lovers.
We visited Vumbura Plans North (with a quick jaunt into Vumbura Plains South and a visit to Little Vumbura) while on our recent African safari in Botswana.
And we can tell you we loved every minute of our stay. Especially the unbelievable elephant encounters while relaxing in our private plunge pool (a mother and her calf literally came right up to us, within 2 metres or less)!
The staff, who were lovely at all of the camps we visited, but especially at Vumbura Plains (including allowing us to take over the bar each evening) really are a highlight of your stay (amongst many). Razi, General Manager, Lazi (our Guide) and all of the Team really are to be commended.
Wilderness Safaris Vumbura Plains (South)
The North and South camps at Vumbura Plains are connected by one long raised timber walkway, so it is easy to move between the two.
They share a gift shop, and of course all of the activites and wildlife experiences are the same.
The rooms are also for all intents and purposes identical, and while the layout of the lounge, restaurant and communal areas are slightly different, the styling and amenities, and quality, are on par.
From what we could see, the rooms at Vumbura Plains (South) are just that little further back from the water than at the North camp. Though of course this would surely change depending on water levels and the time of year you are visiting.
But if we had to choose, North just felt that little greener, little cooler, little less dry and overall will be our choice when we return.
Though having said that, we will be hard pressed to vote against Little Vumbura…
Wilderness Safaris Little Vumbura
D’s father stayed at LIttle Vumbura on his Botswana adventure some years back, and still raves about it.
And our close inspection confirmed the hype is real.
As with the North and South camps, Little Vumbura has undergone a recent refurb and the results are stunning, particularly in the central communal areas right on the waters edge.
While visiting, we crossed paths with giant Kudu (the are much, much bigger and even more impressive when encountered on foot just a few metres away compared to when seen from your safari vehicle) as we strolled between the rooms.
While there are no plunge pools, and the only way in and out of the camp is via boat (which does mean your evening safaris will have to finish earlier than if you are staying at either of the main camps as ‘sailing’ after dark is not permitted) you won’t be disappointed if you chose Litle Vumbura as your base for exploring the Okavango Delta.
This post is a place holder at present, we are working on our photos and review and will update as soon as we can. Check back again soon :)
